Scout Group set to benefit from council grant
Plans for the interior fit out of a Scout Group hut in Chipping Norton have been given an £18,000 funding boost from West Oxfordshire District Council.
The new fit out is for a brand new hut to be built on land owned by Chipping Norton Town Council; the old building has been demolished due to being unfit for use.
It will include stud walls, fire doors, kitchen, toilets, showers, all electricals, heating and security systems.
Cllr Jeanette Baker, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities said: “We are delighted to be supporting this project which will give the Scout Group in Chipping Norton a dedicated home and allow this very popular group to take in more members and grow.”
The Group currently has over 100 members and a waiting list for more places. With the new premises there is potential for membership to rise to more than 200.
When the building is not being used by the scouts it will be available for other community users.
The total cost of the interior fit out is £72,500 and, with the Council grant, over 60% of the funding needed for the project has now been raised.
The hut shell (exterior) and service connections are being funded by Section 106 investments made by Chipping Norton Town Council.
The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting on 14 June and is subject to the Council’s usual 10-day call-in period.
At the same meeting the Cabinet agreed to provide a £1,200 grant towards new flooring at Great Rollright Village Hall.
